Our IVF journey began in January 2018 after we were diagnosed with unexplained infertility.
Like many we went into IVF with the misconception that it would just work, but we soon learned that this was not the case.
It was all quite daunting at first, especially when we were told we’d need to administer our own injections, but the nurses guided us through this and Michael soon became a pro!
Our first cycle went as planned but two weeks after the transfer the pregnancy test was negative, and we were devastated. We took some time to grieve and in May 2018 we tried again.
A few weeks later we were staring at another negative pregnancy test.
In September 2018 we started our 3rd cycle.
IVF is emotionally and financially draining, and it was starting to feel like it would never happen, but we tried to go into this round as positive as we could.
After egg retrieval I became unwell with an infection and after talking it through with the team we decided to freeze our blastocysts so I could fully recover before doing a transfer.
Around November 2018 we started to prepare for a frozen transfer. During this time, I accidentally missed a medication dose and it was decided the best option was to abandon the cycle and start again. In January 2019 the transfer went ahead.
Two weeks later while we were on holiday in Florence, we were looking at another negative pregnancy test. We went straight out for a large glass of wine and ice cream and started the grieving process again.
April 2019, we started our 4th cycle and a few weeks later we saw our first ever positive pregnancy test. We could not believe it! It was such an anxious wait to our first scan but there on the screen we saw a heartbeat and we were just overjoyed.
On the 6th January 2020 our son was born and we felt like the luckiest people in the world, he was absolutely perfect!
A few years later in 2023 we made the decision to try again for a sibling.
By this time age was not on our side and we were told our chances had reduced but a few weeks later we saw the 2 lines. We were pregnant! Another anxious wait for a scan, but then we saw a beautiful heartbeat and we knew our family was now complete.
