What is a Frozen Embryo Transfer 

A frozen embryo transfer is a treatment cycle which allows you to use embryos created in a previous treatment cycle. Embryo Freezing

Prior to a frozen embryo transfer your medical notes will be screened to ensure all investigations and information is up to date and ready for you to commence your treatment cycle.

Before your embryos can be transferred into your uterus, the lining of the uterus (the endometrium) will need to be prepared with hormone therapy.  The drugs will only develop the endometrium; the ovaries will not be stimulated, therefore the process involved in a frozen cycle is not as intense as with a fresh cycle.

You will be monitored with regular ultrasound scans and will receive additional drug therapy as required until your endometrium is ready for the embryos to be replaced. The nursing staff will keep you informed every step of the way. As your treatment plan is individual to you, there will be a discussion with regards to embryo thawing, continued storage of remaining embryos and how many embryos to transfer.

Once the endometrium is suitable for replacement, the embryos will be thawed according to your individual plan and monitored by our team of embryologists to ensure they are suitable for replacement and transferred back to your uterus, in the same way as a fresh embryo transfer.
